Who We Are

Our House Farm 2011 crew
We are Our House Farm (formerly Sligo Creek Farm), a 3.5 acre, organically-certified vegetable farm with a flock of 100 free-range laying hens. Our farm, an LLC, is located on the land of Our House, a residential job-training center for at-risk teenage boys. In 2002, retired professor Edwin Gould first established a 1/2 acre youth garden at Our House. Within a year, the garden earned its organic certification. In 2007, John Brill took over management of the youth garden, and moved his local organic farm operation, Sligo Creek Farm, to Our House. Marc Grossman joined as a co-owner in 2008. In 2012, Sligo Creek Farm became Our House Farm. Michelle Nowak and Stephanie Jones currently manage day-to-day operations on the farm.

About The Farm

We sell our organic produce and free-range eggs to local restaurants, like Ricciuti's, and at farmers markets in Silver Spring (May-Dec, Saturdays 9-1), Olney (May-Nov, Sundays 9-1), and Takoma Park/Langley Park (Crossroads market, May-Oct, Wednesdays 2:30-6:30pm ).

We also offer a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Our CSA offers members a better value for produce than they receive at our market stands, plus the chance to come to the farm for free you-pick from our ongoing you-pick list. Check out our 2012 CSA application if you're interested in joining! The deadline for sending in an application is February 15, but note that we offer a limited number of shares and will accept payments in the order we receive them. In 2012 we're offering two pickup locations, on Tuesdays at our farm (19715 Zion Rd., Brookeville, MD) and on Saturdays at the Silver Spring Farmers Market. We grow a great selection of crops. Some of our specialties are our mix-n-match salad buffet, our heirloom tomatoes, our sweet fall carrots, our heirloom Italian green beans, and our fresh free-range eggs.

About Our House

Our House Farm is located at Our House, a residential job-training center for abused, abandoned, and orphaned youth. The adolescent boys at Our House come from all over the state of Maryland and Washington D.C. Our House gives them a second chance at being productive working members of the community. They receive counseling and training in carpentry, GED preparation, and life skills. And through a collaboration with Our House Farm, the young men can choose to gain employment and experience in organic farming.
